Our Accommodation
We offer beautifully furnished homes with the convenience of amenities and utility bills included in your rent. Step into a world of tranquility and comfort at Sustainable Co-Living. Ideal for medium to long-term stays, our homes are crafted to offer a warm, inviting atmosphere both inside and out.
Regulations
We are a licenced shared accommodation provider/rooming house operator regulated by Consumer Affairs Victoria. Each property is managed according to the Residential Tenancies Act Victoria (Rooming Houses). Each property exceeds the minimum standards required of rooming houses which were updated in 2023. Our properties with 4 or more bedrooms are registered with the local Council’s Health Department and are inspected annually by the Health Department.
Rental Agreement
Each bedroom within the house has a separate residency agreement. This means that if your housemate has rent arrears, this will have no impact on you. The rent charged is a fixed amount which is payable weekly or fortnightly in advance. There is no additional charge for electricity, gas, water or WiFi use as these are all included in your rent. There is no additional charge for cleaning of communal areas, garden maintenance or general maintenance as these services are included in your rent. Thereby helping with your budgeting.
Lease
The length of stay is very flexible. The lease is 6 months, after which the tenancy is ongoing until you give 2 weeks' notice of your intent to vacate. The majority of our residents have rented with us for several years.
Bond
Bond equals 4 weeks rent and all bonds are registered with the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA). Upon moving out, if your rent is paid to the end of the 2 weeks notice and the room is clean, with all items in good condition, your bond will be refunded to you in full.
Residents
People of various backgrounds choose Sustainable Co-living. Our residents include people who want to live close to their workplace and people who have supports in the area. The primary criteria which determine who lives in Sustainable Co-living accommodation is that the house meets the needs of the applicant and that the applicant is deemed to be reliable, trustworthy and compatible with other residents.
House rules
Each resident agrees to a set of house rules upon moving in. These rules detail the need to maintain a clean, quiet and safe home. We respect and value all people but do not tolerate those who put the peace, safety, security and/or privacy of others at risk. In the rare instance of the house rules being breached we follow the processes of the Residential Tenancies Act Victoria (Rooming Houses).
Furniture
Our houses and bedrooms are fully furnished. You may arrange to bring your own bedroom furniture in place of ours.
Gardens
A gardener is employed to cultivate and maintain the garden at each house. Each house has an area suitable for growing vegetables and a composting area. Some gardens have fruit trees and some have egg laying chickens. Residents are not required to do gardening, but each resident is welcome to enjoy the garden and to grow their own vegetables and other plants.
Location
We offer rooms for rent in the northern and western suburbs of Melbourne.
